Picture yourself closing deals, presenting to potential clients, or participating in a critical business meeting. A laptop with a high-definition webcam ensures you’re seen clearly, while advanced audio technology guarantees your voice is heard with crisp clarity. Add in a powerful processor, ample RAM, and reliable connectivity, and you’ve got the perfect tool for all your video conferencing needs.

If you’re looking for recommendations, check out my top picks for the best laptops for Zoom meetings and video conferencing.

1. Apple 2023 MacBook Pro

Apple 2023 MacBook Pro

The new MacBook Pro M3 is arguably the best premium laptop available today. While cutting-edge performance isn’t essential for video conferencing, chances are you’ll use your laptop for much more. If you’re into video editing, content creation, running demanding software, or even casual gaming, the new MacBook Pro is the ideal choice.

The M3 chip introduces a new GPU architecture and Dynamic Caching, significantly boosting performance. Apple claims that the M3 series delivers up to 2.5x faster rendering and 80% more CPU power compared to the M1 Max chip.

The display has also seen an upgrade, now boasting 600 nits of brightness and a 3K resolution. The six-speaker Dolby Atmos system with spatial audio, paired with an FHD camera and studio-quality mics featuring noise cancellation, enhances the video conferencing experience.

One of the best updates is the improved connectivity, with 3 Thunderbolt ports, an HDMI port, and an SDXC card slot. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 ensure fast and reliable wireless performance.

Overall, I’m highly impressed by Apple’s advancements with the new MacBook Pro. While time will tell if it maintains its standing, for now, it’s my top recommendation.

2. Apple 2023 MacBook Air

Apple 2023 MacBook Air

The MacBook Air M2 is, in my opinion, the best laptop for video conferencing and productivity—with one caveat: connectivity. If you don’t mind using an adapter or a MacBook dongle, or if you don’t need an HDMI port, this laptop will meet all your needs effortlessly.

Powered by the M2 chip, which significantly outperforms the M1 and earlier Intel-based MacBooks, the MacBook Air M2 boasts an 8-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. While this cutting-edge performance isn’t necessary for video calls, it’s great to have for other tasks.

As for the design, it’s a matter of personal taste—you’ll either love it or not. But one thing everyone can agree on is the fanless design, which provides blissful silence and minimal heat.

The larger 15-inch Liquid Retina display is a highlight, offering vibrant colors and 500 nits of brightness (most laptops average around 300 nits). Paired with a six-speaker system supporting Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos, and a new Full HD camera, your video calls will look and sound amazing.

One of the standout features is the battery life. The MacBook Air M2 can last up to 18 hours on video playback, and in my experience, streaming YouTube for an hour only drained 1% of the battery—impressive, right?

Of course, using the camera during calls will deplete the battery faster, but this level of battery performance is still a game-changer.

In summary, the new MacBook Air is one of the best laptops available, offering a suite of features that make it an excellent choice for online calls and everyday productivity.

3. ASUS Zenbook 15

ASUS Zenbook 15

The ASUS Zenbook 15 is a top contender on my list for video conferencing. I’ve always appreciated the build quality, design, and features of ASUS Zenbooks, but this model truly stands out with its 2.8K OLED display, Harman Kardon-certified Dolby Atmos audio, Full HD camera, and impressive computing power.

The OLED screen delivers stunning clarity, with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a lightning-fast 0.2 ms response time, making it ideal not just for work but also for casual gaming. The screen’s vibrant colors and high contrast ratio elevate the viewing experience.

Performance isn’t sacrificed either. The laptop is powered by an octa-core AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, supported by 32 GB of fast DDR5 memory and a 1 TB SSD, ensuring smooth multitasking and ample storage.

For connectivity, it’s well-equipped with HDMI and USB ports, making it easy to connect external devices like projectors. Battery life is decent, with up to 13 hours of claimed runtime, though, as with most laptops, video calls will drain the battery faster.

The Zenbook 15 is also built to last, featuring a military-grade durable chassis with ASUS’ antimicrobial coating. It’s lightweight at just 3.09 pounds and features a 180-degree hinge, making it perfect for on-the-go meetings.

All in all, the ASUS Zenbook 15 remains one of my top choices for video conferencing and productivity.

4. HP Spectre 16 x360

HP Spectre 16 x360

The HP Spectre x360 is one of the top convertible laptops for video conferencing and productivity.

Powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700H processor, it features 14 cores, 20 threads, a 24 MB cache, and a turbo clock speed of up to 5.0 GHz. Combined with 16 GB of memory and 512 GB SSD storage, this laptop is built to deliver long-lasting performance.

One of its standout features is the 16-inch 3K+ touchscreen, offering 100% sRGB color accuracy, 400 nits of brightness, and an impressive 91% screen-to-body ratio. The large, vibrant display is ideal for both work and entertainment.

For video conferencing, the Spectre x360 excels, delivering clear visuals and vivid colors even in varying light conditions. The 360-degree hinge, touchscreen functionality, and stylus pen add versatility, while the Bang & Olufsen speaker system ensures excellent audio quality.

Despite its powerful configuration and high-quality display, it offers solid battery life with a 6-cell, 83-Wh battery.

Although it would have benefited from the latest DDR5 RAM, the HP Spectre x360 remains an excellent choice for Zoom calls, thanks to its flexible design, superb display, great audio, and strong connectivity options.

5. Lenovo ThinkPad X1

Lenovo ThinkPad X1

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 series is renowned for its well-crafted, versatile business laptops, featuring excellent keyboards and strong security features. The Gen 11 model continues this tradition, offering a fingerprint reader, an FHD IR webcam with a privacy shutter, AI-powered noise-cancelling microphones, and Dolby Voice, all designed to enhance your video conferencing experience. It’s also Zoom-certified, ensuring exceptional performance across all Zoom products.

This laptop is powered by a 13th Gen 10-core Intel Core i7 processor with a 12 MB cache and a max turbo clock speed of 5.0 GHz. With 32 GB of LPDDR5 memory, it delivers outstanding multitasking capabilities, and the 1 TB SSD ensures plenty of fast storage, making it a future-proof investment.

Connectivity is strong with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and multiple USB ports. The 2.2K IPS display provides solid color accuracy, enhancing both productivity and media consumption.

For its premium price, the absence of a dedicated graphics card, a sharper display, and longer battery life is noticeable. However, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon remains an excellent choice for video conferencing, business use, and all-day productivity.

Conclusion

A reliable laptop is essential for a smooth video conferencing experience, but it’s not the only factor to consider. Whether you’re prepping for a remote interview or are a seasoned video conferencing pro, make sure you’re also equipped with the following:

  • Stable Internet: Test your internet speed and Wi-Fi connection ahead of any Zoom meeting. Few things are more frustrating than having to apologize repeatedly for a lagging connection.
  • Secondary Display: A second monitor can make multitasking much easier, allowing you to keep your Zoom meeting visible while referencing other documents or slides without constantly switching windows.
  • Additional Hardware: Don’t overlook the importance of extra tools like a secondary mouse, keyboard, ring light, and other accessories. While not strictly necessary, they can enhance your setup and make your work life more efficient and comfortable.
